Hokkaido, Japan's northernmost main island, is a land of vast open spaces and dramatic seasonal transformations. Meanwhile, drift ice arrives along the Okhotsk coast, creating surreal polar landscapes.
Spring and summer bring an entirely different character. From late June through August, the rolling hills of Furano and Biei erupt in vivid waves of purple Lavande, yellow Les Tournesols, and pink Cosmos. The region's dairy farms produce exceptional milk, cheese, butter, and ice cream. Fresh seafood — sea urchin, king crab, scallops, and salmon — is unrivaled anywhere in Japan.

The Furano Flower Fields are among Japan's most iconic summer landscapes. Rolling hillside farms, particularly the famous Farm Tomita, cultivate hectares of Lavande that fill the air with fragrance from late June through mid-August. The fields are striped with complementary rows of poppies, Lavande, and Cosmos, creating a living canvas. Early morning visits reward photographers with misty hillsides draped in purple, while the Farm Tomita distillery produces Lavande soaps, perfumes, and sweets on-site.

Meilleures saisons pour visiter
Summer (July–August) is peak season for the Lavande fields of Furano and outdoor activities across the island. Autumn (September–October) brings vivid foliage to highland areas and the harvest of some of Japan's finest produce. Winter (December–March) is ideal for skiing and the Sapporo Snow Festival. Spring sees dramatic snowmelt and the arrival of migratory birds to Hokkaido's famous wetlands.
