About the Pinecone

Pinecones are the woody seed-bearing cones of pine trees, familiar treasures of autumn and winter walks through parks and woodlands. Notice how their overlapping scales open in dry, crisp weather to release winged seeds and close tightly again when dampness returns.

Built in a natural Fibonacci spiral, each cone has a pleasing geometric order that artists and craftspeople have cherished for centuries—from Japanese garden motifs to winter table centerpieces and wreaths.

Coloring Tips & Brain Training Benefits

Start with a light golden-brown or warm beige base across the cone, then deepen the lower shadow of each scale with burnt sienna or dark walnut brown. Leaving the outer rim of each scale slightly lighter gives an immediate three-dimensional woody texture.
