Snowflake Coloring Page (2 of 4)

On the second sheet the snowflake grows finer branches that look like tiny leaves. A deeper blue near the center that fades to a pale blue at the tips brings out the sparkle.

About the Snowflake

Snow crystals form high in the sky when water vapor freezes, and they most often grow in a six-sided pattern because of the way water molecules fit together. The branches grow differently depending on the temperature and moisture around them, which is why it is often said that no two snowflakes are exactly alike.

Since the pattern repeats around the center six times, a color choice made in one arm can simply be repeated in the others. Picking two or three shades of blue and one accent, such as violet or pale green, before you start gives a harmonious result, and leaving a little paper white here and there keeps the crystal looking light.
