About the Cat Mandala
Sun motifs appear in mandala art around the world, often standing in for warmth, vitality, and the passage of time - themes that resonate with almost anyone regardless of background, which is part of why a sun mandala makes such an approachable subject for a first attempt at this style of coloring. Here, the sun is given a gentle, friendly face, with rays reimagined as overlapping flower petals rather than sharp spikes, softening the whole design.
Because the face sits at dead center, it's worth finishing that part first and stepping back to check the effect before committing to the outer petals - the face sets the emotional tone for the rest of the piece. Warm colors (yellow, gold, orange, soft red) are the natural choice, but a few unexpected cool accents in the background circle can help the sun itself pop forward.
