Hinamatsuri, or the Doll Festival, is celebrated every March 3rd to pray for the health and happiness of young girls. Families display an elaborate tiered platform of ornate dolls representing the Emperor, Empress, and their court in Heian-period dress, often passed down through generations as a treasured heirloom.
