Bon Odori is a joyful folk dance performed during Obon, the Buddhist festival honoring the spirits of ancestors. Dancers in colorful yukata circle a raised wooden platform called a yagura, moving in unison to traditional drumming and song. Held in town squares and temple grounds across Japan every summer, it is as much a community gathering as it is a spiritual observance — a night where generations dance together beneath glowing lanterns.
