About the Hippo

The hippopotamus is a large, round-bodied animal that spends its days in rivers and lakes, with small ears, wide nostrils and a broad, gentle face. Despite its great size it moves easily through the water, and its calm expression gives it a friendly, approachable character.

Hippos live together in groups and are often seen resting half-submerged, with only their eyes and ears above the surface. That peaceful, good-natured image makes the hippo a relaxing and cheerful subject to color.

Benefits as a Coloring & Brain Training Activity

For coloring, the hippo's broad, rounded body is easy and satisfying to fill in, and soft greys with a touch of pink bring its skin to life. The water, reeds and flowers around it invite gentler blues and greens, and adding them a little at a time gently engages the mind.
