The Last Supper
Leonardo da Vinci painted this famous mural on the wall of a dining hall in the convent of Santa Maria delle Grazie in Milan in the 1490s. It captures the moment Jesus says that one of his apostles will betray him, and the twelve react in four lively groups of three.
Jesus wears a red robe with a blue mantle. Spread reds, blues, greens, and yellows across the apostles' clothes to keep the long scene lively, and add pale blue shadows to the white tablecloth for depth.
Look at the ceiling and the wall panels: all the lines lead toward Jesus's head. This one-point perspective gently draws your eye to the center of the picture.
